A security deposit is a sum of money paid upfront to the landlord or property manager to cover any potential damages beyond normal wear and tear. It is refundable at the end of the lease term if the property is left in good condition.
Be cautious of rental listings that seem too good to be true, always verify the legitimacy of the landlord or property manager, and never wire money or provide personal information without confirming the authenticity of the rental arrangement.
In most cases, landlords cannot increase the rent during the lease term unless there is a specific provision in the lease agreement allowing for such increases. There are typically a standard annual increase if you continue staying at the property!
